Next-hour precipitation notifications

Rain alerts before the first drop falls

Hyperlocal Weather watches the sky over your exact coordinates and sends rain alerts before it starts — "rain starting in 10 minutes" — and tells you when it will end — "rain stopping in 55 minutes." A minute-by-minute nowcast curve shows exactly how the next hour unfolds. Free on iPhone & Android, worldwide.

The nowcast curve

The next hour, minute by minute

A will-it-rain notification is only useful if it's specific. The next-hour curve sits right on the current-conditions screen and plots precipitation minute by minute, banded into light, medium and heavy — so "rain in 10 minutes" comes with the shape of the shower attached.

  • Start time — see exactly when the first drops reach your spot.
  • Intensity bands — light drizzle, steady rain or a heavy burst.
  • One glance — the curve lives beside all your current conditions.

When the alert fires, see what's next

A precipitation notification tells you rain is coming; the hyper-precise view tells you what to do about it. Tap through to the next three hours in 15-minute steps — precip bars, temperature line and wind arrows — and decide whether to wait it out or head off now.

  • 3 hours in 15-minute steps after the next-hour window ends.
  • Precip bars + wind arrows alongside the temperature trend.

How it works

What makes a good rain alert app?

Most weather apps notify you about rain the same way they forecast it: by the hour, for the nearest city. That's too coarse to be useful — a shower can start and finish inside a single "60% chance of rain" hour, and it might soak one side of town while the other stays dry. Useful rain alerts need two things: your exact coordinates, and a nowcast that resolves the next hour minute by minute. Hyperlocal Weather builds that nowcast from high-resolution radar, real weather-station observations and forecast data from Foreca and Apple WeatherKit, then turns it into notifications that arrive before the weather does.

Start alerts and stop alerts

A "will it rain" notification is really two different questions. Before the shower, you want a next hour rain notification with a countdown — rain starting in 10 minutes — so you can grab the washing or the umbrella. During the shower, you want the opposite: rain stopping in 55 minutes, so you know whether to wait under the awning or make a run for it. Hyperlocal Weather sends both, and the same nowcast curve is always one tap away for the full picture. If you want alerts for other conditions too — wind, temperature, UV — those live on the custom weather notifications page; this feature is purely about rain start and stop.

Paired with the forecast radar

Every alert is backed by the map. The nowcast screen includes real-time radar, so when your phone says rain is ten minutes out you can watch the cell that's about to deliver it — and with the radar forecast you can scrub forward to see where it goes next. For planning further ahead at the same fine resolution, the 15-minute weather forecast extends the picture across the coming hours.

  • Commuters and cyclists — leave in the dry gap between two showers.
  • Parents — time the school pickup so nobody gets drenched.
  • Dog walkers and runners — a 40-minute dry window is all you need.
  • Outdoor workers — know when to cover up and when to resume.
FAQ

Rain alerts questions

How do rain alerts know it's about to rain at my location?

Hyperlocal Weather builds a minute-by-minute nowcast for your exact coordinates by blending high-resolution radar, real weather-station observations and forecast data from Foreca and Apple WeatherKit. When that nowcast shows precipitation reaching your spot, the app sends a notification before the first drop falls — not after.

Will the app tell me when the rain will stop?

Yes. Stop alerts are the other half of the feature: when it's already raining, the nowcast tells you how long the shower will last — for example, rain stopping in 55 minutes — so you can time the school run, the dog walk or the dash to the car.

Do rain alerts show how heavy the rain will be?

Yes. The next-hour nowcast curve is banded into light, medium and heavy intensity, so a notification about drizzle reads very differently from one about a downpour — and you can decide whether an umbrella is enough or it's worth waiting ten minutes.

Do next hour rain notifications work outside the US?

Yes. Rain alerts work worldwide — including the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Nordics, Japan, Singapore and Australia — and the app is free on both iPhone and Android.
