The app works without sign-up. We never ask for your name or e-mail.

1.Who we are

In short: Hyperlocal Weather is an independent weather app. This policy covers the mobile apps and this website.

This Privacy Policy explains how Hyperlocal Weather ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects information when you use the Hyperlocal Weather mobile applications (iOS, Android, Apple Watch, Wear OS) and the website hyperlocalweather.app. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

2.Information we collect

In short: precise location for forecasts, basic device/technical data, purchase status โ€” and, only if you choose to post, community content.

  • Location. With your permission, the app reads your device's precise location to show the forecast, radar, rain and alerts for where you are. You can instead search for locations manually. Coordinates included in service requests may appear in our server logs in a coarsened form (rounded to roughly city level).
  • Device & technical data. Device model, operating system version, app version, language, IP address, mobile carrier / ISP, time-stamped request logs, and a randomly generated device identifier. We do not collect your name, e-mail address, contacts or phone number โ€” the app has no accounts.
  • Purchases. Premium upgrades are processed entirely by Google Play or the App Store. We receive only an anonymous purchase token to unlock features; we never see your payment card or billing details.
  • Notifications. If you enable alerts, we process the data needed to schedule and deliver them (your alert rules and locations). Custom notification rules are stored on your device.
  • Community content. If you use the optional Community feature, we collect the content you submit โ€” see Section 4.

3.How we use information

In short: to run the app โ€” forecasts, alerts, community, purchases, ads on the free tier โ€” and to keep the service safe.

  • Delivering weather forecasts, radar, alerts and other app features for your locations.
  • Operating the Community feature: publishing reports, counting votes and reactions, computing reporter reliability scores, and moderating content.
  • Verifying premium purchases and unlocking paid features.
  • Preventing abuse: rate limiting, spam prevention and blocking devices that violate our rules.
  • Showing advertising in the free version and measuring app performance and stability.
  • Complying with legal obligations.

We process this data because it is necessary to provide the service you request, based on your consent where required (e.g. location permission), and for our legitimate interest in keeping the service reliable and abuse-free.

4.Community weather reports NEW

In short: community reports are public and anonymous. Your precise location and optional photo are published only when you tap "send report".

The Community tab lets you share live weather observations (rain, hail, flood, a pretty sunsetโ€ฆ) with other users. Using it is entirely optional โ€” the rest of the app works without it.

  • What becomes public. When you submit a report, the report type, the precise location of your device at that moment, the submission time and (optionally) a photo you attach are shown to all app users on a shared map. Reports are anonymous: no name or profile is attached, and reports automatically disappear from the map after a type-specific period (3โ€“48 hours).
  • Anonymous device ID. A randomly generated identifier (not derived from your identity or hardware) links your reports, votes, reactions and reliability score, and enforces rate limits and moderation. It is never displayed to other users. You can view and copy your own ID from the Reporter Profile screen.
  • Photos. Photos are reviewed by a moderator before they become visible to anyone. Before upload, the photo is resized and re-encoded on your device and all embedded metadata โ€” including GPS EXIF tags โ€” is removed.
  • Photos may also appear on our own channels. A photo you submit, once approved by a moderator, may be published on Hyperlocal Weather's website and official social media accounts (for example Instagram) to show what the community is observing. It is published anonymously โ€” no name is attached โ€” and it stays your copyright. We never sell photos or license them to third parties for their own advertising. If you want a photo removed, e-mail us and we will delete it from the app and from posts we published; see Terms of Service, Section 6.
  • Votes & reactions. You can confirm/dispute nearby reports and react to photos. Votes and reactions are stored linked to your anonymous device ID. Your location is used momentarily to verify you are near a report you vote on; it is not stored with the vote.
  • Moderation & enforcement. Every report can be flagged in-app. Content that violates our rules (offensive, misleading or unrelated material) is removed, and the submitting device may be permanently blocked from the Community feature.
  • Deleting your content. You can delete your own report within the first minute after posting. At any later time, e-mail info@hyperlocalweather.app with your device ID (Reporter Profile โ†’ tap the ID to copy) and we will delete your community content.
Think before you post: submitting a report intentionally publishes your current location on a public map. If you don't want that, simply don't post โ€” browsing the community map shares nothing.

5.When we share information

In short: we never sell your data. We share only what's needed with the services that power the app.

  • Weather data providers (Apple WeatherKit, Foreca): receive the coordinates of requested locations in order to return forecasts and observations.
  • Map providers (Esri/ArcGIS): serve the map tiles shown behind forecasts and community reports, and therefore receive the map area you are viewing.
  • Google AdMob: serves advertising in the free version and may process device identifiers and coarse location under Google's own policies.
  • Google Play / App Store: process purchases; we exchange only anonymous purchase tokens.
  • Analytics (Google): aggregated, non-identifying usage and stability statistics.
  • Other users: only the community content you deliberately publish (Section 4).
  • Our own social media accounts (for example Instagram): approved community photos may be re-published there, anonymously, together with the report type, its coordinates and time. Those platforms then process the post under their own terms.
  • Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and integrity of the service.

6.How long we keep information

In short: technical data at most 1 year. Community content stays until it's removed โ€” and you can request removal any time.

  • Technical & log data is kept no longer than 1 year, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
  • Community content (reports, photos, votes, reactions, reliability score) is an exception: it is retained while the Community service operates so that the shared map, scoring and moderation history stay consistent. Expired reports are no longer shown publicly. You may request deletion of your community content at any time (Section 4).
  • Purchase records are kept as long as needed to honour your purchase and meet legal obligations.

7.Security

In short: encrypted transport, minimal data, anonymous identifiers.

All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS. We practise data minimisation: no accounts, no names, no e-mail addresses; community identity is a random identifier. Photos are stripped of metadata before they ever leave your device. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we design the service so that the data we hold is as little and as anonymous as possible.

8.Children

In short: the app is not directed at children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9.Your privacy rights

In short: you can access, correct or delete your data โ€” one e-mail is enough.

Depending on where you live (including the EEA/UK under GDPR and California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, the right to object, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. We do not sell personal information.

Because the app has no accounts, requests are handled through your anonymous device ID: copy it from Community โ†’ Reporter Profile and e-mail it to info@hyperlocalweather.app with your request. You can also stop all collection at any time by revoking the location permission or uninstalling the app.

10.Advertising

In short: the free version shows ads via Google AdMob; premium removes them.

The free version displays advertising served by Google AdMob, which may use device identifiers and coarse location to select ads, subject to Google's advertising policies. Where required, you will be asked for consent to personalised advertising. Upgrading to premium removes ads entirely.

11.Do-Not-Track

Some browsers offer a "Do-Not-Track" signal. There is currently no common standard for honouring these signals, so we do not respond to them; we will update this policy if a standard is adopted.

12.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time โ€” for example when we add features like the Community reports described above. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current revision. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
